Snowbird

Snowbird Cocktail with Moondog Latin Bitters beside

Snowbird

A “snowbird” is a person who migrates from the colder northern parts of the Americas to warmer southern locales during the winter months. This is an ode to them and their winter getaway.

by Kate Bushel, Beverage Director Barrocco Goup, Montreal
Serving Glass: rocks glass.
Garnishes: orange zest.

Recipe (for two):
2.00 oz / 60 mL Canadian Rye Whisky (like Lot 40)
2.00 oz / 60 mL Cuban aged dark rum (like Havana Club 7)
0.50 oz / 15 mL orgeat (like Marie Brizard Orgeat)
4 dashes Bittered Sling Moondog Latin bitters

How to prepare: Incorporate the spirits, syrup and Moondog Latin bitters in a mixing glass. Fill with ice and stir for 20 seconds. Strain in an ice-filled rocks glass. Express the citrus oils from an orange zest and use for garnish.

Flavour Profile: feisty / robust / spirit-forward

Inspiration: A “snowbird” is a person who migrates from the colder northern parts of the Americas to warmer southern locales during the winter months. This is an ode to them and their winter getaway.

Batching / group party tips: Easy to scale. You can easily mix the ingredients in advance (up to 24hrs prior) and shake just before serving. (Measure a portion of about 4.00 oz per person when serving).

The bitters work well because…. it ties in with the natural spices from the rum and rye whisky.
